BAHA members Rick and Jennifer Tosch have a reason to be smiling big this month. Their homebred stallion, Sunsational Kid, was nothing short of sensational at the recent Buckeye Arabian Horse Show held in Columbus, Ohio. "Kid" is now owned by the Frizzell Family and trained by Jen Schmitt of Strand's Arabians. Kid and Joe Frizzell were Champions in both the Arabian Western Pleasure AOTR and the new Western Pleasure AOTR Extravaganza, winning $10,000!! Kid was then shown in the ever talented Arabian Western Pleasure Junior horse class and came away a Champion! Three classes and three Championships...not too bad!!

Congratulations to Kid, Jen Schmitt and the Frizzell family!

Arabians/Half-Arabians Well Represented at Kentucky Dressage Association’s May Show

The Kentucky Dressage Association hosts four shows over a five day period—always over Memorial Day.  The first two days of the show, Wednesday and Thursday, are Breed Show I & Breed Show II (in-hand and Materiele classes).  Friday is a one day five Dressage show with Saturday and Sunday combining for a two day Dressage show.  In addition to Intro through Grand Prix classes and a Saturday night competitor’s party and freestyle event, KDA recently added CDI* classes at their annual show.

Thanks to BAHA, the Arabian/Half-Arabians were able to once again participate in the popular Breed high point awards.  The Breed high point awards go to the first and second place horses in the Arabian/Half-Arabian In-Hand classes; and to the horse and rider combination with the highest score for verified registered horses of a particular breed in the Dressage rings on Friday and on Saturday (horses must compete at at least First Level to be eligible for the award).  Everyone loved the neck ribbons that BAHA donated to the high point Arabian/Half-Arabian.  The show committee got lots of compliments about the ribbons and everyone was hoping that the golf cart carrying the ribbons was coming their way!

This year both Breed Show I & Breed Show II offered IBC (Individual Breed Classes) for the Arabian/Half-Arabian horses.  For both shows, the results were identical with the Kentucky bred Ragg Tyme (Half-Arabian/DHH) taking the Champion honors and Ruby Del Sol (Half-Arabian/Lusitano) taking the Reserve Champion honors.

Ruby Del Sol came all the way from North Carolina with her trainer, Sophie Pirie Clifton,  a first time competitor at the KDA Dressage show and the Kentucky Horse Park.. Ruby not only took home Reserve Champion ribbons for the in-hand classes, but she received two trophies and Champion ribbons for being the high scoring Arabian/Half-Arabian Dressage horse competing at Second Level on both Friday and Saturday.

Friday’s Reserve Champion high scoring Arabian/Half-Arabian was Nezma Rose and her owner/rider Mary Allen.  The beautiful chestnut now competes at Fourth Level and has won BAHA sponsored high point awards in years past as she has been climbing the levels!

All three horses intend to compete at the AHA Sport Horse Nationals this September at the Kentucky Horse Park.  A big THANK YOU from the Kentucky Dressage Association goes to BAHA for supporting the beautiful and versatile Arabians/Half-Arabians with the breed highpoint awards at our annual show!
